Sox Teeter in Texas

The Boston Red Sox came into tonight's action in Arlington Texas trying to right the ship and prevent a four game losing streak. The stars were certainly lined up in the Sox' favor, as Josh Beckett was pitching for Boston. Still, the Boston bats found a way to destroy a solid pitching performance and create a loss by a final score of 4-2.

Josh Beckett pitched a complete game, and allowed four runs over eight innings of work. Not exactly the Josh Beckett one has become used to seeing, but still a strong performance, never letting the Rangers' lead exceed three runs. He was tagged for two early runs in the first inning, but settled down nicely, as he only allowed 2 runs over the next 7 innings.

The offense for the Sox has been causing major problems for the team since the All-Star break. They have now lost 4-in-a-row, while averaging a lowly 2 runs per game. Every time the team had an opportunity to strike, it seemed like a Boston batter would hit a lazy fly ball or strike out. For the Sox to reclaim 1st place in the AL East, (today they were dethroned by New York) they will need their potential offensive juggernaut to support their pitching staff.

Tomorrow Clay Buchholz will try to stop the bleeding, and will attempt to pitch Boston back into its winning ways. It's just four games, and there's no way the Red Sox offense will continue to struggle like this.
