After an extremely disappointing road trip consisting of two sweeps by division rivals (Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees) the Sox have returned home to take the first two games against the Detroit Tigers. Tonight, Boston won 7-5. Junichi Tazawa earned his first major league victory, as he went five innings while allowing three runs (one earned) and striking out six. Facing Tazawa was Rick Porcello, who only got through one inning, as he was ejected in the bottom of the second inning. Porcello hit Kevin Youkilis, seemingly as retaliation for Miguel Cabrera being hit earlier in the ball game. Youkilis charged the mound, and the two wrestled each other two the ground. Both benches cleared and many players piled above Youk and Porcello, but were eventually pulled off. Porcello looked genuinely surprised as Youk charged, but the intention seemed to be there. Rick and Kevin were both ejected, and later Terry Francona was thrown out for arguing a stolen base. Nevertheless, a great game for the Sox, as they ended up winning 7-5. Mike Lowell, filling in for Youk after his ejection, hit two home runs. Return to Red Sox News |
