Sox Bombed in the Bronx

The Boston Red Sox have now lost six games in-a-row, and they have managed just two runs over their last 35 innings. The offense has been atrocious, as has the bullpen's pitching. Tonight, it was Daniel Bard who gave up back-to-back home runs to Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira to blow Jon Lester's lead. Lester ended with a no decision, despite having a final line of seven innings, no walks, five hits, seven strike outs and one run. In one total inning of work, the Sox' bullpen (Bard and Hideki Okajima pitched tonight) gave up 5 hits, 4 runs and a walk.

The offense was looking to help, especially Victor Martinez, who broke the Red Sox' scoreless streak with a two-run shot in the 8th. This lead was later blown by Bard. Vmart's home run was among many positives of the night for the Sox' offense, including three hits from J.D. Drew and two from Nick Green. Unfortunately, a sub .080 batting average with runners in scoring position did Boston in.

After tonight's 5-2 loss and a 4-game series sweep, the Sox sit 6.5 games behind the Yankees.
