Red Sox Swept in Tampa

The Red Sox were swept in a two-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays won tonight's game by a final score of 6-4. Brad Penny picked up the loss for Boston.

The Red Sox had trouble stringing together hits, as two of the four runs were solo home runs by Victor Martinez and Jason Bay. Unfortunately for the Sox, Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, Pat Burell and Jason Bartlett were each able to find the stands, ultimately sending the Red Sox to defeat.

Brad Penny was unimpressive in his six innings, as he gave up five runs including three home runs. For the Rays, David Price gave up just two runs over six innings pitched. The loss pushes the Sox another game behind the Yankees, as New York beat the Blue Jays by a final score of 8-4. Boston is now 2.5 games out of first in the AL East, and to regain the top spot, the Sox would have to sweep the Yankees in the upcoming 4 game series.

So far this year, the Sox are 8-0 against New York, which bodes well for them as they try to grow on their success starting tomorrow.
