NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has recently announced the extreme change
in NFL policy. Starting in the year 2010, the Pro Bowl will be played
instead of the Super Bowl. Goodell is apparently trying to boost support
for the Pro Bowl, and believes that if played instead of the Super Bowl,
the game will be more watched. Roger Goodell said that he is, "Sick and tired of players'
lackadaisical play," during the NFL Pro Bowl. He said that he was
"frustrated" with the media for not properly hyping up the game, and
said that he was "disappointed" with NFL fans for not showing support
for their conference. He said that the Pro Bowl is a time for players
and fans to have fun, and just be able to watch football, without having
anything on the line. Goodell apparently missed a memo from the players' organization, as
they said that the Pro Bowl is, "Just a publicity stunt where players
threaten their health for the pure pleasure of fans, while playing for
nothing. Furthermore, fans don't care
about the game." Clearly, Goodell believes that by playing th Pro
Bowl instead of the Super Bowl, more fans will watch. NFL Players have displayed their discontent. Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Ryan Clark said, "They what?! They cancelled the Super Bowl? They can't do that! That's the one game where you know both teams are going to be pouring their hearts out!" NFL Experts believe that this will have a similar effect of David Stern tyring to implement a new type of basketball into the NBA; A complete failure. They say that, "after Goodell sees the numbers this coming season of the Pro Bowl, which will remain a fans' waste of time, he will realize his mistake and once again have the real big game, the Super Bowl, be played." ~Written In Response to Roger Goodell's change of pro bowl time to the week before the Super Bowl to increase publicity.
