Brad Penny had problems in this afternoon's start, giving up six runs over just five innings of pitching, including a two-run shot to Adam Lind. Penny walked one while only managing three strike outs. The offense could not cut through the deficit, and fell to the Toronto Blue Jays by a final score of 6-2. Jed Lowrie was still rusty after his first start from being placed on the disabled list, as he made a fielding error, while going 1-4. His one hit was a solo home run, his first of the year. Lowrie will most likely pull it together defensively, and he'd better if he wants to keep starting, because the Sox have continuously been rotating their short stops due to defensive woes. Nevertheless, Jed played very solid defense last season, and will probably do the same in the coming months. With Julio Lugo likely out of the picture for good, Lowrie and utility man Nick Green will look to create a viable short stop combination. Return to Red Sox News |
