Beckett Better, But Bats Falter

After a series of horrendous starts delivered by Red Sox' ace Josh Beckett in which Beckett had allowed 14 home runs over just five starts, Josh pitched seven innings and gave up just three runs. The Sox were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning when Hideki Okajima gave up a two-run shot to Carlos Quentin. This put the White Sox up 5-1, and the Sox' bats could not erase the four-run deficit.

Jacoby Ellsbury stole his 60th base tonight, and is the first Red Sox player in the team's history to reach this milestone. Dustin Pedroia had a good night, going 1-3, and is now three of his last 26. The Sox are now 8.5 back of the Yankees in the divisional standings, while sitting just 2.5 games ahead of the Rangers in the wildcard.
